Reviving Skateboard History: New Reissues from World Industries
Skateboard culture is steeped in history, and over the years, many iconic designs have stood the test of time. For fans and collectors, the latest reissues from World Industries are a nostalgia trip back to the golden era of street skating. These boards feature some of the most beloved graphics from legendary skaters like Jeremy Klein, Kareem Campbell, and Rodney Mullen. But these decks aren’t just about the art—they also come with stories about the passion and innovation that shaped the sport. Let's dive into the exciting reissues that are making waves today.
Jeremy Klein – "Black Eye Kid"

Jeremy Klein’s "Black Eye Kid" graphic first made waves back in the day with its memorable illustration and bold design. The reissue of this board is a tribute to Klein’s rebellious spirit and his lasting impact on skateboarding. The accompanying text by Steve Rocco offers insight into Jeremy’s strong-willed personality and the dedication that led him to success in the skate world.
When Rocco met Klein at just 15 years old, it was clear that Jeremy had something special. Known for his uncompromising attitude and unmatched skill, Klein wasn't just a skater; he was a force of nature. The board’s nostalgic illustration of a kid with a black eye encapsulates Klein’s fiery energy and his drive to push boundaries, much like the original designs that captured the raw essence of skateboarding.
Kareem Campbell – "Fudgesicle"

Kareem Campbell's reissue deck, featuring the controversial yet iconic "Fudgesicle" graphic, is another bold statement from World Industries. With art by Marc McKee, the board shows a provocative image of a woman eating an ice cream. The reissue text dives deep into the significance of the graphic, highlighting Campbell's resilience in the face of criticism.
The "Fudgesicle" board wasn’t without controversy when it was first released, but it embodies the fearless attitude of the era. Campbell's ability to rise above the negative opinions of others and stand by his decisions is a testament to his strength of character. This reissue is a nod to both his skating legacy and his role in shaping skateboarding as a cultural force, unapologetically challenging norms with art and style.
Rodney Mullen – "Rock is King!"

Arguably one of the most legendary names in skateboarding, Rodney Mullen’s reissue deck titled "Rock is King!" features an eye-catching graphic of a skeleton holding an electric guitar. The design, as colorful and loud as Mullen’s impact on the sport, holds a deeper meaning, as noted by Rocco.
Rodney Mullen is often considered the godfather of modern skateboarding, having invented many of the tricks that have shaped street skating. However, this particular graphic was never something Mullen loved—it’s a representation of how sometimes even the greatest names in skateboarding have their image shaped by others. Despite his feelings about the graphic, the board remains a piece of skateboarding history. Rocco’s words resonate: skateboarding history is about moving forward and pushing boundaries, much like the message of "Rock is King!"
“Skateboarding Is Dead!” — A Satirical Time Capsule

This reissue recreates one of the most infamous tongue-in-cheek ads in skateboarding history. Framed as a mock news article dated April 19, 1990, it dramatically announces the “death” of skateboarding after World Industries dared to advertise other companies’ products.
Written in the overly serious tone of a newspaper obituary, the piece mocks the way the sport was frequently declared “dead” by outsiders. It references the industry’s past “brushes with death,” industry analysts, and a supposed final demise at age 35—again.
The accompanying board graphic drives the joke home with a colorful cartoon tombstone marked 1988–1990, a playful nod to how often the culture was dismissed or misunderstood. It’s exactly the kind of irreverent humor that made World Industries iconic, and this reissue doesn’t soften any of that vintage sarcasm.
“Skateboard University” — A Crest for the School of Hard Knocks

“Skateboard University” takes the shape of a mock academic crest—complete with symbols like checkered flags and crossed boards—but the writing behind the graphic reveals the real message: skateboarding is the education.
The text is a funny yet honest reflection on learning through mistakes. It explains that out of the “millions of mistakes” the writer has made, not using this design earlier is one of them. It frames skateboarding as the ultimate teacher:
-
passion leads to pain
-
pain leads to knowledge
-
and knowledge leads right back to skating
It even jokes that if there's a real school that teaches better than skateboarding itself, the author would like to see it. Until then, skaters are encouraged to slap the included bumper sticker somewhere and keep riding.
This design celebrates the DIY spirit, the bruises, the breakthroughs, and the lifelong lessons only skateboarding can give.
But that’s not all—these iconic graphics are also making their way onto a line of new t-shirts and apparel, so you can wear your skate history loud and proud.
