Einzelheiten
Die Vato-Ratte wurde vom Künstler Craig Stecyk geschaffen. Stecyk stammte aus der Santa Monica Dogtown „Z-Boy“-Surfskate-Szene der 1970er Jahre und war von hispanischer Gangkultur und Graffiti umgeben. Zu dieser Zeit hat er viele Zephyr-Surfboards mit dem Airbrush versehen und diesen Einfluss in seine Arbeit einfließen lassen. Die Vato-Ratte war eines der vielen Symbole, mit denen er Surfbretter schmückte und im Allgemeinen Gebiete an lokalen Surfspots markierte. 1983 beschloss Stacy Peralta, die Vato-Ratte als Powell-Peralta-Grafik zurückzubringen. Sie nannten es "Rat Bones" und es wurde in der Werbung, auf Decks, Aufklebern und T-Shirts verwendet.
