In den späten 1980er Jahren hatte Powell Peralta ein etabliertes Vert-Team, das mit Leuten wie Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero, Mike McGill und Lance Mountain ausgereizt war. In dem Bestreben, die Pro-Liste des Unternehmens auf den wachsenden „Street-Style“-Markt auszudehnen, begannen sie, neue „Street“-Profis hinzuzufügen. Nach Tommy Guerrero war es Mike Vallely, dann Ray Barbee. Der vierte Powell-Peralta Street-Profi, der ein Deckmodell erhielt, war Steve Saiz aus Long Beach. Seine „Totempfahl“-Grafik der amerikanischen Ureinwohner war die zweite, die 1989 von dem neu erworbenen Künstler Sean Cliver illustriert wurde. Saiz fuhr bis in die frühen 1990er Jahre für Powell-Peralta Schlittschuh, bis sein Knie leider nachgab.
